Pathologist Assistant

Southern Community Laboratories is a division of Healthscope that has provided doctors and patients in New Zealand with pathology services since 1960. We are the largest provider of Pathology services and have laboratories throughout New Zealand. Wellington SCL is a newer branch that opened at the end of 2015 and includes a brand new laboratory based at Wellington Hospital. The Anatomical Pathology department processes over 33,000 surgical specimens each year and has an active Registrar Teaching Programme.

Our Anatomical Pathology department is looking for a qualified Pathologists' Assistant with experience in complex tissue dissection. The position will also take a lead in teaching Registrars and Scientists cut up techniques and may be called on to assist in hospital post mortems from time to time.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • To hold American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board certification as Pathologists' Assistant or equivalent,
  • To be registrable as a Scientist with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council,
  • A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment,
  • Experience in dissection training is preferred.

Your working hours will be from 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday. There will be no on call duties.
