Part Time Specimen Reception / Trainee Phlebotomist

Southern Community Laboratories, which is a division of Healthscope, has provided doctors and patients in New Zealand with high quality, accessible and sustainable pathology services since 1960 and has laboratories throughout the country. Our team consists of talented and skilled individuals, all of whom play an important role in helping us to be New Zealand's leading provider of quality private healthcare services.

We need a customer focused person to work at our Frankton based laboratory. You will work 48 hours per fortnight and work as a phlebotomist collecting blood from patients and also at reception receipting and sorting medical specimens for the purpose of diagnostic testing. Previous Phlebotomy experience is desirable to ensure a high quality service is provided at all times. However, if you are prepared to work towards obtaining a Pre-Analytical qualification in Phlebotomy or Specimen Reception full training will be given to an individual with suitable background and personal attributes as follows:

  • Previous experience working in the Healthcare sector, i.e. a medical laboratory, medical center, rest home or dealing with patients is desirable
  • Good empathy with patients and open to collecting blood and handling contained specimens, i.e. human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc.
  • Good key board / data entry accuracy and computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, a high standard of presentation, with a professional and courteous manner
  • A clean and current driver's licence.

You must have effective time management and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
